Isard Homes in El Tarter, Andorra: High-Performance V92 Timber Windows
Isard Homes in El Tarter (Andorra) features V92 high-performance timber windows designed for extreme alpine climates, offering maximum insulation and durability.
The residential complex Isard Homes, located in the heart of El Tarter (Andorra), is a mountain housing development conceived to blend naturally into the Pyrenean landscape. The area, closely linked to Grandvalira, shows intense architectural activity and thermal demands that influence both the design and construction process.
The design and technical direction were developed by Engitec, the studio led by architect Pere Espuga, a benchmark in Andorra thanks to his extensive experience in mountain construction and civil works. Since 1987, Engitec has worked on residential projects, hotels, infrastructure, and public facilities, with deep knowledge of energy regulations and landscape integration.
The project was promoted by Grupo Avintia and executed by Tres Estudi, a company specialized in high-mountain construction where snow loads, valley-channelled winds, and complex access routes must be solved.
Isard Homes required high-performance exterior carpentry capable of withstanding sub-zero temperatures, constant moisture from accumulated snow, and intense solar radiation due to altitude. The windows needed to provide insulation, airtightness, and structural stability, while matching the traditional stone-and-timber architecture of the Pyrenees.
The chosen solution was V92 Series timber windows, designed specifically for demanding climates. With a 92 mm section, they allow triple glazing and large insulating chambers—essential to reduce thermal losses and prevent condensation.
The use of engineered laminated pine offers superior resistance to deformation, greater stability in extreme cold, and enhanced durability against direct solar exposure.
The selected finish—a deep chestnut tone—ensures perfect integration with the stone and wood present throughout the development. Beyond its aesthetic value, this technical finish improves surface resistance to extreme temperature variations between day and night.
The rigidity of the V92 Series made it possible to incorporate large fixed panes and balcony doors facing the slopes and the valley, providing abundant natural light and a direct visual connection with the Pyrenean landscape.
In mountain projects, even a minimal thermal bridge can cause condensation or loss of comfort. For this reason, Tres Estudi carried out the installation with special attention to the junctions between stone walls and the external insulation system, ensuring airtightness and thermal continuity.
The result is a residential complex that combines contemporary mountain architecture with robust, efficient, and fully integrated exterior carpentry. The timber windows V92 Series provide thermal comfort, interior silence, structural stability, and an aesthetic language that respects Andorra’s architectural tradition.
Isard Homes confirms that timber remains one of the most reliable and suitable materials for high-performance windows in high-altitude environments.
